Looking forward....
Positive things to report on the house front. Looking forward to a site visit this weekend with a potential new member(s) of the Maxon House team. Plus banks seem to be suddenly interested in handing out money again which is nice to hear and a positive change from the past economic climate of saying "NO WAY!!!"

We're back!!!
Got to take in quite a range of architecture splendor during our East Coast trip. Glad to be back in the Northwest however. This week things are pretty quiet except for a weekend site visit with a potential
new addition to the project team. Fall is definitely here the leaves are turning, etc. Will post some updated site photos over the course of the next few days.

Road Trip
Admiring some modern architecture back East the last few days. Always good to get some perspective on how different regions and their respective design talents bring modern to life in various contexts.

How to find an architect :: Seattle AIA
How to find an architect
AIA Seattle's class for those who want to know how to find an architect and have other questions about residential design is now more user-friendly. The streamlined program is after work, instead of on Saturdays, half the price, $10 per person/$15 per couple, and half the time, 90 minutes.
"How to Choose an Architect" also has a new name, "Home Design 101: Getting Started." The seminar offers the basics of design and construction, including budget advice, tips for hiring a contractor, what to expect and how best to work with your designer.
Check out http://www.aiaseattle.org/find-an-architect for a database of local firms, a class schedule and other resources.

Field Trip
Today a field trip to the site to check out the transitioning colors from summer to fall. Took the great dane for a walk and took a step back to take in the complete transformation from just years ago. Things are progressing nicely with permit in hand and assembling of all the right players to move forward. Next week will be big and we look forward to sharing more developments over the course of the next few weeks and months.

This article speaks to some of the factors we considered when leaving the master planned suburbs for a better space, better designed and more applicable to our lives. Good design takes time. Takes money. And takes the right team. Enjoy. http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/10/02/shifting-the-suburban-paradigm/
making things
there are a few different approaches to being a client on a new construction project. you write a check and tell everyone to let you know when its all done or you are super involved. we are super involved. part of understanding what you are paying for is getting your hands dirty and being part of the process and part of the overall experience (what eventually becomes the story). we've involved our entire family in the process and there are parts of the project that become tangible for everyone. one of things we've done is learn about the different projects kundig has done to understand how each project has different components that are inspired from eachother and may eventually or already have found their way into our project. and one of the things i've enjoyed is making physical lego creations or digital versions of projects that are celebrated in the olson kundig portfolio. below is a rendering of kundig's delta shelter. these projects are beautiful because they are simple and that makes them fun to build and explore. everyone has something to look forward to by being involved. everyone is part of the design.
