making things
there are a few different approaches to being a client on a new construction project. you write a check and tell everyone to let you know when its all done or you are super involved. we are super involved. part of understanding what you are paying for is getting your hands dirty and being part of the process and part of the overall experience (what eventually becomes the story). we've involved our entire family in the process and there are parts of the project that become tangible for everyone. one of things we've done is learn about the different projects kundig has done to understand how each project has different components that are inspired from eachother and may eventually or already have found their way into our project. and one of the things i've enjoyed is making physical lego creations or digital versions of projects that are celebrated in the olson kundig portfolio. below is a rendering of kundig's delta shelter. these projects are beautiful because they are simple and that makes them fun to build and explore. everyone has something to look forward to by being involved. everyone is part of the design.
